How it works
- Find an item. Search or browse by category. Fixed-price listings show the asking price; auctions show the current bid and the time left.
- Ask before you buy. Use "Message seller" or the questions section to ask about condition, provenance, measurements and shipping.
- Bid or agree a price. To bid, sign in and enter the most you are willing to pay; the site bids for you only as much as needed to keep you in the lead, and emails you if someone outbids you. When an auction ends, the winner and the seller are notified by email and arrange the sale.
- Pay and collect. Buyer and seller agree payment, delivery or collection directly. AntiqueLion does not take payments or hold money.
Tips for buyers
- Ask for extra photos, including marks, signatures, damage and repairs.
- For valuable pieces, ask about provenance and any certificate or receipt, and consider an independent appraisal.
- Inspect the item in person when you can, in a public place.
- Prefer payment methods that offer buyer protection. Be careful with bank transfers to someone you do not know, gift cards and cryptocurrency.
- Agree in writing who pays for shipping, insurance and any import duty before you pay.
- A price far below the market, pressure to pay quickly or a request to move the conversation elsewhere are warning signs.
Tips for sellers
- Describe condition honestly and photograph flaws. Accurate listings sell faster and avoid disputes.
- Do not send an item before payment has cleared in your account.
- Be wary of buyers who overpay and ask for a refund of the difference, or who send a "courier" you have never heard of.
- Check the export rules for antiques and cultural objects in your country, and any rules for materials such as ivory, tortoiseshell or rare woods, before shipping abroad.
- Mark the item sold or reserved from your account as soon as it is agreed, so buyers are not left waiting.
Report a problem
If a listing looks fake, stolen or prohibited, or a user behaves suspiciously, contact us with the listing link. We review every report and may remove listings or accounts.
